Arrive Beijing
All is well. We got here, but not after Alan demolishing just about all the food they had on the airplane. I think he ate non-stop the whole way. Everything is brand new in this city and very clean (including the air..today) and few cars on the road. Had a bit of trouble finding our accommodation and spent a bit of time wandering the backstreets at midnight with all our motorcycle crap trying to find the joint..i couldn't sleep the night before we left and cant sleep on planes so hadn't slept for two days. Our double room we booked at the hostel only had one giant double bed (all cool being brothers) but i made Alan promise he woudn't hug me in the night thinking i was Genevieve. My skin isn't as soft, he would wake up rather disappointed. Today we hired pushbikes and hit the city....the best way to get around. There are giant bike lanes everywhere so its a sinch. Alan followed his nose to a bakery quickly and we had a great dumpling lunch..top notch. Temp is about 30 and humid...i needed to borrow Alans sunnies because the reflection off our white skin was giving me a migraine. Longneck beers are less than a dollar...happiness!

is that scorpion?
interesting.....
Dear Alan and Matt,
Weather here at Phillip Island cold but sunny. We enjoyed a fire last night at the house with Dad creating another masterpiece of fire building to get it going. Great to hear everything is going well and no tummy troubles. Obviously plenty of people to talk to about the road conditions too. Lots more of westerners must be travelling because of the Olympics. Will be having Teija Friday night and Saturday. She wants to go to Warburton to the shops as she has a little bit of money to spend!
Love from Mum and Dad
Hi Matthew and Alan
Reading your entries brings back fantastic memories of my trips overseas. I was thinking to myself "I must do a trip again...."
It sounds like everything is going your way presently which is great. The photos are fantastic to see, and have more impact because we are seeing the same images on TV.
Luke and Jess have had a look and a read with both being very impressed with the scorpian eating (did you really?). Luke (and me) really like the humour in your writing.
Are you going to see the great wall at any stage in this trip?
The Demajo report is Luke and Jess are completing years 11 and 10 respectfully. Next year we have a challenging one with Anthony commencing secondary school and Luke & Jess doing years 11 and 12.
I am in my new job as OHS Consultant for Swinburne University and am ABSOLUTELY loving it! I've come in at a good time to make a difference and to progress with my career. The world will be my oyster after this!
Mum and Dad as well as the Pinolo's are due back this weekend from Queensland - no doubt with many stories to tell.
Anyways - take care the both of you. This is a priceless experience as you probably already know. How many people get to travel with their sibling and get to share the memory into their old age?

Dear Matthew and Alan.
Am at State Library today on computer as Dad and I have appointment in the city re his possible retirement. All going well here. Will be picking Teija up tonight to stay at our house. She is coping very well with you both being away. I am really enjoying reading your blog and will pass the details onto my mum and dad when they return from Queensland on Saturday. It was great getting your phone call on my birthday. I also received a card and CD's from Genevieve which was lovely. Dad and I enjoyed having an indian meal with her on Sunday night too. Starting to get organised for the big move in the week beginning 11th August. So glad the time has finally arrived! Keep on having fun!

Dear Alan and Matthew,
Am staying at Ivanhoe after visiting Melbourne today to see a kimono exhibition at the Immigration Museum and an Art Deco exhibition at the Art Centre. All well here. Hoping to see Teija this weekend. She's going along to some of her school's activities to celebrate 50 years of being in the Yarra Valley. It has been raining quite a bit lately which is great but we haven't been experiencing such a variety of weather as you both have. I am sure you notice it even more because of the flat landscape and bigger sky. Good to hear most things are going well except for some minor problems.
Love Mum
